Bertram's Destination of the Week: Outer Banks, North Carolina
North Carolina’s Outer Banks have played host to some of the most famous seafarers in history, be they the rescue men of the lifesaving stations or the famed privateers that used the shallow backwaters and offshore bars to launch their attacks. This environment not only turned out seasoned watermen, but also some of the finest sportfishing found anywhere in the world.
Hatteras Village has withstood the wrath of hurricanes and nor’easters, yet continues to be a fantastic destination for serious fishermen, with several great marinas such as Oden’s Dock, Village Marina, and Teach’s Lair Marina. Each of the marina facilities also offers accommodations for the entire family. There are several restaurants offering a variety of local seafood and landlubber fare throughout the island.
The area benefits from year round opportunities for offshore for seasonal species such as blue and white marlin, yellowfin tuna, bluefin tuna, dolphin, wahoo, sailfish, and king mackerel. Plus you can enjoy inshore game including striped bass, red drum, bluefish, flounder, sea bass, Spanish mackerel, and cobia.
Amazing beaches and land-based activities will also keep the entire family entertained in one of the fishiest places on the eastern seaboard. We’re already planning on getting the new Bertram 35 to the area. Stay tuned!
