Bertram Helps Promote Cancer Research with Donation to PJ Aldridge Foundation at White Marlin Open 2017
Bertram Yachts presented $1,000 donation to the PJ Aldridge Foundation, Saturday, during the White Marlin Open 2017 awards ceremony, to help raise funds for lung cancer research and awareness.
This is the second year Bertram has presented the Spirit of Richard Bertram Award at White Marlin Open in Ocean City, Md., recognizing the angler that most embodies the spirit and essence of Richard “Dick” Bertram, founder of Bertram Yachts, in 1960.
This year was notably special for award recipient, PJ Aldridge. Aldridge started the PJ Aldridge Foundation in 2010 after being diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and given just three months to live.
“The White Marlin Open is one of the great traditions in sportfishing," said Peter Truslow, CEO, Bertram Yachts."The Richard Bertram award celebrates the spirit of this tournament. PJ exemplifies this spirit. He is a long time supporter of this event and as passionate about sportfishing as he is about life and the friendships he has made from the White Marlin Open.”
Lung Cancer is the number one diagnosed cancer in the world, yet receives the least amount of funding for research and awareness. The Foundation’s mission is to help provide funding for lung cancer research, to educate people of all ages about the disease and improve the awareness of this leading cause of cancer.
"I spent some time with PJ and it became clear to me that he has beaten the odds in his battle with cancer because of his great spirit and the support of his fishing friends," said Truslow. "Bertram is honored to help with PJ’s continued fight."
