1980s1981 – The innovative Bertram 54 convertible makes its debut after two years of extensive research, including six months of running the prototype off Bimini and Miami. 1984 – Bertram introduces the 38 special, an open fishing/cruising model. 1985 – In March, 1985, Whittaker sells part of its interest in Bertram and three other marine companies to Investcorp in a leveraged buyout. The transaction results in Whittaker’s portfolio becoming three newly formed companies. One, Bertram Trojan, Inc., acquires the assets of the Bertram Yacht and Trojan Yacht divisions. Bertram 37 convertible is introduced with sleek, new styling. 1986 – Bertram 50 convertible debuts in 1986 and is dubbed "the slickest Bertram yet" by Boating Magazine. The 50s are so popular they require two production lines to keep up with demand. Bertram 72 is introduced shortly after the Bertram 50. 1987 – The 43 convertible is added to the fleet. |
